Technical Writing

When people ask me what technical writers do, I often respond by telling them that technical writers explain things. What I love about my work as a technical writer is that it allows me to simplify information in a visually aesthetic way for the audience. Throughout this category of my web portfolio, you will find multiple examples of the work I have accomplished and the documents I have designed during my time at Ferris State University. If you have any questions, or if you would like more samples, please contact me.

Instructional Writing

Title IX Process

I used Piktochart to design this document as a simple way to inform students about the Title IX Reporting Process.

Active Bystander

I designed this document for an event geared towards teaching students how to be an active bystander. The document was created in Piktochart.

Teavana Instructions

In my very first technical writing project, I was delighted to hold the role of writer. Unlike my other projects above, these instructions were created as a group effort. All design credit can be given to P. Tindall, who used Adobe InDesign. C. Kuhn was responsible for leading the research and user-testing. The instructions were designed to teach users how to infuse tea.

Coffee Instructions

The following deliverables were created in Adobe InDesign with the intent of being a simple set of instructions for employees at a coffee shop. Each piece was meant to be an individual magnet that could attach to the side of an espresso machine or a refrigerator for easy use.

Professional Writing

Grant Proposal

I wrote this Grant Proposal in the spring of 2017 and, while it was a class assignment, it was written for an actual organization. At the end of the semester, the organization received a final copy to use in the future.

Recommendation Report

We wrote this recommendation report in the fall of 2016 as a group project for our technical writing class. At the end of the semester, the recommendation report was given to the Torch Newspaper.

Project Report

My partner and I wrote this proposal in the spring of 2017 for the Title IX Office at Ferris State University. The proposal was given to the Title IX Office at the end of the semester.

Documentation

Title IX Brochure

I wrote this Grant Proposal in the spring of 2017 and, while it was a class assignment, it was written for an actual organization. At the end of the semester, the organization received a final copy to use in the future.

Title IX Newsletter

I created the 2017-2018 Title IX Newsletter in Lucidpress and it is now posted on the Ferris State University Title IX Compliance website.

Title IX Installation

I wrote this Grant Proposal in the spring of 2017 and, while it was a class assignment, it was written for an actual organization. At the end of the semester, the organization received a final copy to use in the future.

Jet Lag Eye Mask

My next deliverable was also created in Adobe InDesign and the two images are meant to be back-to-back. The idea is that the deliverable can be slipped into the plastic sleeve that the sleep masks come in during international flights.

Jet Lag Bookmark

These bookmarks were created in Adobe InDesign to inform elementary-aged children about jet lag.
